About FMV Işık University

FMV Işık University was established in 1996 by one of the oldest educational institutions in Türkiye, Feyziye Schools Foundation, which was initially named as Feyz-i Sıbyan School in 1885 later adopted the name of Işık with the approval of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. As one of the well-established foundation universities of Türkiye, Işık University today offers high-quality education through 3 faculties with 23 undergraduate programs, 1 vocational school with 13 associate degree programs, and 1 graduate school with more than 45 programs. The University has approximately 8,000 students and 1,000+ of them are international students coming from 60 different countries. Işık University has two campuses in both European and Asian sides of Istanbul. Maslak campus is located in the heart of the business district of Istanbul, the European side. Şile campus is located on the Black Sea Coast, in the famous resort town of Istanbul, in which the symposium will take place in fall 2023. Şile Campus is located in an exquisite location that is far enough from the turmoil, and yet close to the glorious historical city İstanbul.

 

About Şile Campus 

Işık University provides its student with a safe, green and accessible campus. Şile Campus dormitories accommodate 1300+ students with 24/7 security, medical center and technical/cleaning services. Students are welcome to study at the 24/7 open library. Campus offers variety of dining halls, sports and recreation facilities and a calming atmosphere with a sea view surrounded by Şile forests. Daily shuttles are operated between Şile and Maslak campuses and the city center.

 

 

 

About Transportation

You can take the bus 139 from city center, Üsküdar Square, direct to the campus. The bus stop is in front of famous historical Şemsipaşa Mosque in every 105 minutes between 9.45-22.15 from the city center and between 06.15-19.15 from the Şile bus terminal. It is also possible to take M5 subway to Çekmeköy and take the shuttle or 139 bus from Çekmeköy to Şile. There are also university shuttles from both the Maslak Campus (European Side) and Kadıköy Square (Asian Side). Up-to-date shuttle times will be announced before the symposium. İstanbul’s public transportation network with high-density stations and good infrastructure allows visitors to reach any part of the city easily.

 

About Şile

Şile is a city and district in Istanbul, Turkey. The district of Şile is part of Istanbul Province, and the municipality of Şile is part of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Bordering Şile is the province of Kocaeli to the east and south, and Istanbul districts of Pendik to the south, Çekmeköy to the southwest, and Beykoz to the west. The boundaries of Şile were expanded by the addition of the village of Esenceli from Beykoz district in 1987 Şile consists of Şile, Yeşilvadi and Teke subdistricts, and 58 villages. According to the 2007 census, the population of the district was 25,169, of which 9,831 lived in the city of Şile, 2,096 in the nearby town of Ağva (Yeşilçay) and 13,242 in surrounding villages. Popular resort Ağva is also a part of Şile. However, between June and September, the population rapidly increases because of the many residents of Istanbul who have summer houses in Şile.
